The federal government Wednesday described access to justice as a legal mandate which underpins the essence of democracy and human rights.
The Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mrs Jeddy-Agba, stated this Wednesday while delivering a keynote address at a programme tagged “Citizens engagement, access to justice” held in Abuja.
The 2nd quarter stake holders’ engagement, according to her provided a unique and powerful platform to ensure that justice system is accessible.
“It is the bedrock upon which trust in the legal institutions is built.” she said.
Jeddy-Agba highlighted eight presidential priorities of the present administration regarding access to justice.
She said: “Access to justice is a fundamental right that must be upheld and protected as a cornerstone of a just, fair and equitable society.
“Access to justice as you are well aware is a critical pillar of democracy because it ensures that all individuals, regardless of their socio-economic status, have the opportunity to seek redress and the protection of their rights.
“The minister signed on behalf of the ministry and the 9 agencies /parastatals under its supervision a performance bond with President Bola Tinubu which contains 12 ministerial deliverables that aligned with the mandate of the ministry and 3 generic /service wide deliverables one of which is the quarterly citizens and stakeholders engagement sessions.”
