Kano
The Kano state Hisbah board has repatriated 60, 822 beggars to their respective states of origin and other countries between 2014 and 2015.
The director general of the board, Alhaji Abba Sufi, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen yesterday in Kano.
According to him, the beggars were arrested at different locations within Kano metropolis.
“Some of the beggars were arrested and handed over to police while others were taken to court for proper prosecution”, he said Sufi said those arrested comprised male and female adult beggars numbering 20, 346 while young beggars both male and female were 10, 658.
He further explained that out of the number, 12, 310 were from Kano state while 16, 988 were from Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa and Niger while 270 were from outside the country.
He added that 22 were handed over to police, 82 were taken to court while 86 others were found to be suffering from mental disorder.
