Nasara Football Club of Maraban Rido have emerged champions of the maiden First Baptist Church Super 8 Unity Cup Competition on Monday after beating the hosts First Baptist Church, Ibrahim Taiwo Road by a lone goal.

A first half goal by Pius Jesse won the explosive final for the visitors, as the hosts lost several chances to equalise in the exciting match played at the Model Baptist High School Sports Complex, Ungwan Boro, Sabon Tasha to mark the Easter Monday. Maranatha Baptist Church Ungwan Boro defeated CAC Koseunti 1-0 in another keenly contested match to win the bronze.

UnderShepherd of The First Baptist Church, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Rev. Dr. Banjo Ajao, in his remarks, hailed the two finalists for their efforts in reaching the final, while assuring that the tournament would be an annual event. “The main aim of organizing the Super 8 Unity Cup is to unite and help us transform our youth into top stars. Any field that Christian is involved they should be different from others. I want you to work on your temperament because one wrong step could make things go wrong.

“What you are doing here is not for today, a good recommendation could open doors for you but bad character could bring you down. Coaches in church should not look only for talents they should look for character. We can recommend you to the outer world but we won’t recommend players with bad character. Do not exhibit spirit of hooliganism, which is not spirit of Christ,” he advised.
