Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) has been advised to emulate the Nigerian Police in carrying out its duty.
Coordinator of Coalition of Civil Society Organisations, Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi, made the call while commenting on the recent arrest of a fake medical doctor by the Nigerian police.
He noted that the case was properly investigated and the matter taken to a logical conclusion.
While praising the police for living up to their constitutional responsibility, the Coordinator also took a swipe at the ICPC for what he described as lukewarm attitude to work and neglect of primary duties.
He accused the Commission of looking away even when a crime is reported.
He said they had earlier reported a case of forgery and falsification of records by an Executive Director at the Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM ), Mrs. Folake Itohan, to the Commission on July 5, this year, but no action had been taken so far on the matter as the said Director “is still working at the bank.”
He said: “I am of the opinion that the Nigerian Police with this kind of practice should be made the standard for all anti-graft and security agencies. They have certainly set a standard with the arrest of this impostor.
“We specifically think the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission is one of those who need to sit up to their responsibilities.”
Ogenyi admonished the ICPC to “desist from having sacred cows as this makes people feel above the law just as will soon be the case of Folake who is already bragging of her connections and invisibility.”
