Transparency International (TI), a global coalition against corruption, yesterday revealed that more than 6 billion people live in context of highly corrupt government and highly corrupt private sector globally. Chairperson, Transparency International, Delia Matilda Ferreira Rubio, stated this in Abuja at the Agenda for High level workshop to share international anti-corruption best practices to address emerging issues in collaboration with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC).

The workshop was themed: “Preventing the facilitation of corruption in public and private sector leveraging on International frameworks to promote sustainable development.” She lamented that, corruption means less education, less development, less infrastructure and less opportunities for citizens, adding thatcorruption must be stopped to put a stop to stolen assets.

According to her, a lot must be put in place to prevent and to put a stop to impunity, stressing: “It is time for us all to take action, we need acollective efforts to curb because we need more transparent societies.” Earlier, the Chairman of Board of Trustees, CISLAC, Mallam Y.Z Y’au, said the federal government has made so many commitments in fighting corruption but corruption issue has not been addressed. He expected that the workshop will bring out strategies, new initiatives and also create new synergy in fighting corruption.
