616 schools to participate in Delta Headmasters’ Cup

Delta state Commissioner for Primary Education, Mr. Sunday Onoriode, on Tuesday said 616 private and public schools will participate in the 4th edition of Delta/ Zenith Bank Headmastes’ cup.

State Education Commissioner who stated this in Asaba said the Headmasters’ cup will officially kick off on Friday January 20 at St Patrick College, Asaba.

The preliminary stage of the competition tagged “2023 Zenith Bank Delta Headmasters’ Cup football competition”, will run simultaneously across the 25 councils of the state from Wednesday 18 till Tuesday 14, 2023.

Mr. Onoriode who was flank by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Alexander Oghoro and the Special Assistant to the  Governor on sports, Mr. Sunday Lucky, said that the competition which is fully sponsored by Zenith Bank was meant to discover young budding talents in sports in the state.

According to him, “the competition is also to foster the love for sports in our children at a young age, while simultaneously fulfilling the exercise needs of them”.

While expressing optimism that the event would harvest holistically young talented footballers at both public and private primary Schools, the Commissioner said that the competition “will continue to be pivotal in the development of grassroot sports both in Delta and beyond”.

He, therefore, commended the state government and “our esteemed sponsor for their continued support and benevolence in sponsoring the Headmasters’ Cup”, saying the endeavour is worthy of emulation by all and sundry.

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Delta State Governor on Sports Development, Mr. Lucky Sunday, however said the State Government was committed to assist discovered young talents to actualize their potentials.

He said those discovered earlier are performing very well both nationally and internationally in their football choosing career.
