The Nigerian Army has flagged off a 3 day firing competition for 600 female personnel in order to upgrade their skills in weapon proficiency.
Speaking at the occasion, at the Shittu Alao’s Barrack Keffi, in Nasarawa state the Chief of Army Staff, Lit. Gen. Tukur Buratai, said the maiden shooting competition was only for women military personnel from Abuja barracks and it environs.
Buratai, who was represented by Director Campaign Planning at the army headquarters, Brig. Gen John Ochai, explained that Nigerian army women have distinguished themselves during many operations and encouraged them to keep the flag flying.
He therefore, commended the women army for performing well during the recent general elections and in the northwest.
Earlier, the acting commander of Nigerian Army women corps, Brig. Gen Preye Fakrogba, said one of the objective of the shooting was to ensure effective utilization of the potential of female personnel to support Nigerian army operations.
Fakrogha, who commended General Buratai, for creating the female corps unit in the army, ask for more opportunity for the female personnel to participate in both local and international shooting competitions.
