21-yr-old driver in court over N43,000 theft

A 21-year-old driver, Samuel Adeniyi, who allegedly scaled the fence of a house and broke into a shop to steal N43, 000 valuables, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
He was, however, released on a bail of N100,000 with one surety after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Adeniyi, who lives at No.
128, Fagbadu St., Ijaiye, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.
The prosecution alleged that the accused jumped the fence and broke into the complainant’s shop while he was fast asleep and stole some items worth N43, 000.
Police Inspector Aondohemba Koti listed the items as a shoemaking machine valued at N38, 000 and a Nokia 3310 worth N5, 000, property of the complainant, Mr Sekiri Ayuba.
“The complainant woke up suddenly, caught the accused in the act and recovered the stolen items from him.
He immediately reported the case to the police,” he said.
Koti said the accused also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
The offences, according to him, were committed on July 1 about 1.30 a.m.
at No 1, Ladipo St, Mushin, Lagos The offences violated Sections 57 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).
Section 287 stipulates a threeyear jail term for offenders.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Tanimola, who gave the ruling, said that the surety should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government
