The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Parliament in the Northeast has endorsed the continuity of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima joint ticket for the 2027 polls.
At a press conference led by the parliament chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Garba Kobi on Sunday, the group described the pairing as “tested, trusted and indispensable to the party’s success.”
The group also counseled the party hierarchy to not only surmount the present challenges in the APC but also strive to achieve greater party project in 2027 devoid of resentments.
The Northeast APC youths while observing the wranglings rearing ugly heads within the affairs of the party, said they resolved to come together under the parliament to reassess the genesis of the wranglings with a view to advising where necessary.
The youth parliament noted with utmost dismay and consternation that tension was rising within the party hierarchy brewing a storm that could shake the very foundation of the giant party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kobi said that the parliament as the support body of the party connoted and administered the affairs of over 200 other affiliate bodies across the six states of the Northeast sub-region, wondering how a house once built on mutual understanding, unity and shared ambition could now stand at the precipice of discord, with visible cracks threatening its stability.
“Events unfolding in recent times where some mischievous elements and vested interest groups within the party are creating discontent within the party by doctoring a conspiracy theory with the sole aim to substitute His Excellency, Kashim Shettima, serves as a warning symptom of much deeper fractures that may widen to consume the party,” Kobi faulted.
He described as ‘very unfortunate’ murmurs of discontent that continue to grow louder dominating all party spheres which amplifies the speculations surrounding the fate of Vice President Shettima.
“For APC, the rumours of dropping a key figure from the party’s leadership structure, if taken, is akin to stripping a man of his clothes in the market square – such a nasty and covert move will inevitably be met with resistance by all well-meaning citizens, not only those within the fold of our giant party”.
Kobi, however, warned that any attempt to re-configure the joint Tinubu-Shettima ticket in 2027 would only bring resentment that could linger beyond the elections, adding that its negative reverberation could tinker with the party’s successes in the forthcoming polls.
