In a noteworthy development, the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially announced its collaboration with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

David Mark has been appointed as the interim chairman of the party, succeeding Ralph Okey Nwosu.

The ADC was designated as the party of the new coalition during a formal presentation held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

This decision was conveyed through a press release endorsed by the conveners of the Lagos PDP coalition, which includes prominent figures such as Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, Otunba Okanlawon, Chief Onita Coker, Dr. Lekan Lawal, Hon. Kayode Jacobs, Babatunde Olanrewaju, Barrister Kehinde Oshinowo, Chief Baba Jegede, Dr. Babs Akinlolu, Barrister Niran Akinsanya, Chief Dapo Sarumi, and Akeem Kolawole Olanrewaju.

The resolution follows an emergency meeting that was attended by leaders and representatives from all 20 Local Government Areas of Lagos State, convened at Ire Akari Estate in Isolo, Lagos.

The gathering concluded that the leadership challenges currently facing the PDP, compounded by external influences, necessitate a strategic and proactive response.

Participants unanimously agreed that collaboration with the ADC coalition represents a crucial step toward revitalising political efforts and bolstering the integrity of democracy in the region.

The pressing leadership issues within the PDP underscore an urgent need for revitalisation, influenced by external factors affecting the party’s organisational dynamics.

Establishing a coherent direction is essential for the effective allocation of resources and operational efficiency.

A viable strategic approach for the upcoming 2027 elections will involve the formation of robust alliances.

The Lagos PDP aims to build strong partnerships with other political entities and organisations, targeting the reclamation of Lagos and the restoration of its political significance.

Under the leadership of Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, the conveners have reaffirmed their commitment to democratic principles that emphasise citizen empowerment.

As discussions continue, efforts will be made to ensure unity and address any potential concerns. Hon. Owokoniran remarked, “The inclusion of PDP Lagos in this coalition marks a transformative moment in Nigerian politics, with significant implications for the forthcoming 2027 elections.”

As the political landscape evolves, it is apparent that the ADC coalition is poised to play an essential role in the advancement of Nigeria’s democratic processes.
