2027: I won’t be Atiku’s vice presidential candidate – Peter Obi

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has firmly stated that he will be contesting for the presidency in the 2027 general elections and not as a running mate to anyone.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the former Anambra State governor dismissed speculations linking him to a possible vice-presidential ticket alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any other candidate.

“Nobody has ever discussed with me whether to be A or B, or C. I am going to contest for the President of Nigeria, and I believe I’m qualified,” Obi asserted.

Addressing recent rumours of his defection from the Labour Party, Obi debunked reports suggesting he had dumped the party or was engaging in anti-party activities by associating with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“There is nothing anti-party in the decision. We are not abandoning where we are. We are going there together. What is constant is that we have agreed to work together,” he explained.

Obi’s remarks come amid growing political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as various opposition parties explore possible coalitions to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
