The Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has acknowledged the confidence reposed in him and the call to declare his interest in the state’s 2027 governorship race.
Suleiman said, “when the time is right to pursue such political ambitions, it would be done transparently and in consultation with party leaders, political allies, and the people of Bauchi State.”
The speaker in a statement, noted that his primary focus at this moment is on representation, governance and serving the interests of his constituents faithfully.
The Bauchi state Coalition of Youth and Civil Society Groups had urged the Speaker to consider contesting for the governorship position in 2027.
The group described Speaker Suleiman as a dedicated leader with the capacity to lead the state, citing his experience and achievements in public service.
Suleiman maintained that governance and the fulfillment of his current mandate remain his immediate priority.
According to him, “we believe that now is not the appropriate time to declare interest in any political position, including the 2027 gubernatorial race.
“We hold a mandate entrusted to us by our constituents, and it is our duty to act in their best interests.”
Speaker Suleiman however, urged the coalition and supporters to continue praying and supporting his efforts in delivering impactful governance.
