The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially fixed Saturday June 20, 2026 as the date for the Ekiti state governorship election.

This announcement was contained in a public notice issued by the Commission on Wednesday.

According to INEC, the election would be conducted in line with Section 28 (1) and (2) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires the commission to provide at least 360 days’ notice ahead of any governorship poll.

The commission stated that the exercise would take place across all 16 local government areas (LGAs) and 2,445 polling units in the state, with voting scheduled to commence at 8:30 AM.

INEC stressed that only registered voters whose names appeared on the final register of voters and who presented a valid Permanent Voter Card (PVC) would be allowed to participate in the election.

It reiterated its firm stance on the “No PVC, No Voting” policy.

For transparency and credibility, INEC confirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) would be deployed for the accreditation process, reinforcing its commitment to free and fair elections.

INEC urged all eligible voters to ensure they were registered and possessed their PVCs ahead of the poll.

The commission concluded its announcement with a reassurance to the public stating, “We remain committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections. Making your vote count… Consolidating our democracy.”
