2023: Politicians ‘reject’ Yayi in Ogun

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, electorate in Ogun West senatorial district, are putting up strident opposition against move by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola to change electoral base from Lagos West to Ogun West senatorial district.

Senator Adeola who is widely known as Yayi in political circles in Lagos state, currently occupies Lagos West Senatorial seat in the Senate on the platform of the running All Progressives Congress (APC).

But his alleged move to shift his representation in the Senate from Lagos West to Ogun West, come 2023, is being kicked against by some political stakeholders in the area.

Specifically, one of the group of stakeholders from the senatorial zone under the aegis of Yewa Youth for Integrity (YYI), have kicked against the alleged plan of the Lagos-based but Ogun-born Senator.

The group in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Comrade Olawale Kehinde, in Abuja, Sunday, declared that the alleged plan of Senator Adeola to switch to Ogun West senatorial district in 2023 will be vehemently resisted.

The YYI General Secretary in the statement titled: “Yewa Land Have No Political Space For An Outsider” and made available to newsmen, described Yayi as a political merchant that does not care about fairness and morality in politics.

According to the statement, the alleged political plan by Yayi to contest in Ogun state was not only morally wrong, but also very insulting to collective sensibilities of Yewa people.

The group wondered how Yayi who had represented Lagos State twice as member of the House of Representatives and now serving his second term in the senate, to still contemplate the idea of representing Ogun state.

“It is morally wrong for a single individual to hold on to public office for almost two decades at the expense of the younger generation from one particular state and scheming to switch over to another state for another round of political office grabbing,” the group said.

It therefore urged the people of good conscience in Yewa land to speak out against the alleged unprecedented and unacceptable political machination of Senator Solomon Adeola.

The statement reads in part, “We find the alleged political manoeuvering of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, who is better known as Yayi as most insulting to the sensibilities of entire sons and daughters and particularly the youths of Yewa land.

“The recent alleged vexatious political moves of Yayi is clearly an affront on our democratic system. It beats our imagination that Yayi seems to believe that political power is a birthright.

” We find his alleged latest move as an insult to the collective sensibilities of entire people of Yewa land. We wonder how an individual that has represented Lagos State at the National Assembly for almost 15 years at a stretch, could still nurse the ambition of coming to take another turn in Ogun state.

“This latest alleged ambition of Yayi is particularly offensive, because his almost 15 years at the National Assembly have truly not been years of quality representation.

“How do we explain to ourselves and our children without being condemned that the same man who had served as a member of the House of Representatives in Lagos State for two terms and now serving his second term as a Lagos senator, still wants to come down to Ogun State to run for another senatorial position.”

The group consequently sent a note of warning to Senator Adeola that the people of Yewa land are politically sophisticated and would never allow themselves to be bought over by an outsider.

“The years of political manipulations are already over. The electorate will only give legitimacy to one of their own and also to a candidate with a track record and ability to deliver quality representation.

“We are nevertheless very confident that our people will never sell their conscience to any political merchant,” they said.

The group also appealed to all traditional rulers in Yewa land that might have been financially compromised by Yayi, to reconsider their position.

“We want to advise all traditional rulers in Yewa land that may have been induced financially to please reconsider the likely consequences of their alleged romance with an outsider.

“The youths are not in any way happy with their rumoured romance with someone that is not one of us. We are sure that no traditional ruler in Yewa land will want to deliberately incur the collective anger of the youth,” it warned.
