2023: It’ll be suicidal to return APC to power, ex- NHIS boss warns

A renowned medical practitioner and former Managing Director of National Housing Insurance  Scheme( NHIS), Prof Usman Yusuf, has said it would be suicidal and destructive for the nation’s electorate to return the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to power next year.

Delivering a keynote address at a one day symposium organised by the PDP New Generation across the North-west geo-political zone in Kano, Yusuf wondered why the electorate should begin to support the excesses of the party that brought the nation to the abyss with almost no end in sight.

According to him, the nation’s democratic system has been made to suffer abysmally in the face of  dismal role played by those saddled with the responsibility of demonstrating a responsive and purposeful leadership.

He said while Nigerian expected a discernible focus and direction, he noted that all the indices of credible leadership have been compromised on the alter of primordial interest.

He said, “Take into cognizance the. prevailing security situation in the country, the northern part of the country had born the brunt of the atrocities of some undesirable elements wreaking havoc on innocent people for no offence they committed such despicable atrocities were even more prevalent in the North-west.

“In the education sector, the story is the same. our educational system has completely collapsed and no action was   taken to address the rot. such a systemic failure has led to the appalling collapse of the University education in the country. I can’t imagine the way and manner the APC-led government is desperate to sell an unpopular candidate to the electorate.”

“Look at their candidate, he is looking frail. what we need at present, is  an energetic and strong person who is physically fit to run the country. it is high time we should call a spade a spade.”

Speaking earlier, the founder and Director-General PDP New Generation, Malam Audu Mahamoud, said the time has come for the nation’s electorate to sift the grain from the chaff at the time the nation is in dire need of credible leadership, adding that with Atiku Abubakar joining the presidential race, there was a glimmer of hope in the horizon.

While describing the PDP presidential candidate as resilient fighter in the political battle field, Mahamoud, however, stated that as an astute political figure, no one was ever doubting his capacity of leadership in every sphere of human endeavour, stressing that with the nation’s electorate throwing their weight behind his  candidacy, he is poised to pull a surprise.

He called on PDP’s supporters to close ranks in supporting his bid to clinch the presidential seat, stressing however that effecting a paradigm shift at the nation’s critical hour of need has become  imperative.
