The ex-Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Walid Jibrin, has called on party chieftains to unite and speak with one voice for victory in the presidential and other elections come 2023.
Speaking against the backdrop of internal wrangling between supporters of presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and that of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, threatening to derail the party’s quest to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) next year, Jibrin, who is chairman of PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in Nasarawa state reiterated the need for the party to do away with distractions and focus on the task at hand. He also called on the party leaders to sacrifice for the party’s success.
“It is important that PDP remains calm and strong, talk with one voice, and remain focused to follow the path and objectives of the party. We are to make sure that all elections are won in 2023, especially the presidential election. We must ensure Atiku Abubakar becomes the president of Nigeria. All organs of the party must therefore create oneness. All our elders, leaders, youth and all women of the party must talk with one voice and never create division from now on within the NWC.
“The NWC must always show good example in all party activities; once an issue has been discussed and agreed upon, all members must abide. They should never allow any person or group to use them, no matter the positions of the person. All members of the party, no matter what, must accept what positions being held and what is taken by the NWC, and the NWC should not come out on what they agreed; particularly by few members of the NWC. This is not encouraging at all.
“All members of our party, no matter what positions being held, must accept that PDP constitution is supreme and above all members. And once any NWC member brings any loophole, he is trying to kill the party. I want to assure Nigerians that what is happening in PDP is never a problem, but a normal family matter that would be resolved very soon. We shall soon take over from the ruling party. I assure Nigerians that PDP campaign will be issue-based and all units must key into it.”
