13th African Games: Nigeria strikes first Wrestling medal in Ghana

Nigeria’s Emmanuel Nworie 77kg on Saturday won a Bronze medal in GRECO-ROMAN event to add to Nigeria overall medal tally.

Nworie defeated Hattingh J. of South Africa 11-0 superiority after what seemed to be a controversial semifinal for the Nigerian Wrestler.

Speaking after the game, Emmanuel expressed dissatisfaction with his semi-final loss to Egyptian opponent after dominating almost the entire tie but was defeated through technical decisions by the umpires.

“I really feel sad because of my semifinal defeat because I gave my all to reach the final but it wasn’t meant to be that’s i unleashed my anger on the bronze medal match,” Nworie said.

Meanwhile, on Sunday Wrestling event returns as Nigerian Wrestlers will hope to better the performance in Women Wrestling with the likes of Blessing Oborodudu and Odunayo Adekuoroye among others taking to the mat.

Weightlifting, Badminton, scrabble among other will also take centre on Sunday.
