No fewer than 120 People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) will benefit from the distribution of wheelchairs procured by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), among other stakeholders.
Already, the JAMB has constituted a-7man committee to map out modalities to ensure seamless distribution of 20 wheelchairs to registered students in each of the six geopolitical zones.
The committee, which is to be chaired by the leadership of the JAMB-Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) and coordinated by Prof Adenike Oladiji, VC FUTA (South West), also has Dr H.M. Abdulkarim, FCE Technical Gusau (North-West); Prof Fatimah Tahir, VC Bauchi State University, Gadau (North-East); Prof Tanko Ishaya,VC Jos(North-Central); Dr Richard Utubaku, FCE Obudu (South-South), and Dr Stella Lemchi, Provost, Alvan Ikoku College of Education, (South-East).
Also, JAMB has expanded the membership of JEOG to accommodate five more new members namely:Â Dr Babangida Albaba, Rector, Katsina State Institute of Technology & Management, who is the chair of the Committee of Provosts, and Dr Abdulra’uf Salami, Provost, FCE (Special), Oyo.
Others are: Dr. Bashir Aremu Olasunkanmi, Federal Polytechnic, Ede;Prof Okey Okechukwu Provost, FCE Isu, Ebonyi state and Arc. Sunusi Waziri Gamau, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.
It would be recalled that the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), a coalition of academics and experts was established to oversee the board’s examinations for blind candidates in 2017.
JEOG is headed by the former Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Emeritus Peter Okebukola, and the coordinator, Lagos centre. Prof Muhammad Yahuza Bello, is the deputy chairman and coordinator, Kano centre, while Mrs Basirat Agbabiaka is in charge of the secretariat.
