Institute tasks surveyors on professionalism

The President, Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN) Alhaji Murtala Aliyu, has called on Quantity Surveyors to uphold the tenets of the profession to promote the growth of the country.

Aliyu made the call at the investiture ceremony of the 11th Chairman of FCT Chapter of the board and induction of Senate Members of Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Sunday in Abuja.

Aliyu, who was chairman of the occasion described Quantity Survey as a young profession when compared with others in the country.

According to him, the profession in Nigeria will clock 50 years in July and can be seen as young as it is anywhere else in the world.

“It is a special year for the NIQS and also special year for the FCT chapter of NIQS also known as (Unity chapter), which just clocked 25 years. We have a lot of events lined up and NIQS will have to carry a lot of the weight of the programme for celebration of the golden jubilee of the Institute.

“The Institute is writing its history and the history book is going to be publicly presented later this year. We must be part of that history; we must refuse to bring any sentiment in the affairs of the profession.

“We must always look at things from shared competence and professionalism to elect our leaders and we must carry this to all levels of our society, to achieve meaningful growth,” he said.

The President of NIQS, Mr Obafemi Onashile, lauded the chapter for peaceful conduct of the chapter’s election that brought about the emergence of the new executive.

Onashile  who was represented by his deputy Mr Mohammed Abba Tor said such gesture would help to uplift the values that the profession is known for.

“I thank the past leaders of the chapter for bequeathing a chapter worthy of emulation to the younger generation, who I am confident will live up to our expectation.

Meanwhile, the new chairman of the chapter, Mr Otaru Omokhagbo,  thanked the past leaders of the zone and promised to do all within the ambit of the law to promote sustainable growth.

Omokhagbo, who will be chairman from 2019 to 2021, said they would do their best to achieve the desired goals.
