Zulum pledges commitment to youth-centred peace initiatives

The Borno state government is committed to supporting youths to achieve peace, security and development.

The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, asserted this during a courtesy visit by XPeace Associates, a non-governmental organisation at the Musa Usman Secretariat complex in Maiduguri over the weekend.

Led by its project officer, Fatima Muhammad Mafi, the group said the visit was aimed to cultivate a collaborative alliance with the ministry for the purpose of championing youth-centered peace and security initiatives within the North-east region.

The delegation presented a comprehensive agenda, prioritising the advancement of the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda, an initiative aligned with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 250. In tandem, XPeace Associates outlined its plans to conduct an extensive study assessing public awareness of youth, peace and security policies.

The organisation also underscored its dedication to tailoring peace and security strategies to address the unique social and cultural landscape of Borno state.

Responding to these aspirations, Prof Tar emphasised Governor Umara Babagana Zulum’s steadfast support to peace building in the state, and assured the delegates that through the laudable programmes of the government, the youth would be targeted not only as stakeholders but also as promoters of peace, security and development.

He commended the NGO’s dynamic composition and progressive vision, emphasising the ministry’s openness to collaborative efforts that align with state objectives for sustained peace and security.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Permanent Secretary, Modu Alhaji Mustapha and the Director of Administration and Supply, Babagana Mustapha, reflecting the ministry’s collective commitment to advancing youth-driven peace and security initiatives across the state.
