A non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Zamfara, Sagir Hamidu Foundation (SHF), has sponsored 100 youths from the 14 local government areas of the state to undergo training at Sani Abacha Skills Acquisition Centre in Kano state.
Speaking at the departure ceremony of the beneficiaries organised by the Foundation in Gusau, the founder, Sagir Hamidu, said the gesture would be continued after every six months.
Hamidu, a governorship aspirant under the platform of the PDP in the state, said the idea of was aimed at creating opportunity for the youth to be self-employed.
He attributed the involvement of youths in criminal activities to lack of proper training in trades as well as idleness.
According to him, the beneficiaries were categorised to learn various courses comprising carpentry, fish farming, dry season farming and other lucrative skills.
In his remarks, the state caretaker committee chairman of the PDP, Adamu Ibrahim Danja, commended the Foundation for creating the opportunity for the youth in state.
