The Zamfara state House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Bilyaminu Moriki has been impeached. In his place, Hon Bashar Gummi has taken over as speaker pro-tempo.
Blueprint Weekend gathered that the former speaker was impeached by 18 out of 24-member assembly during an emergency meeting Thursday night.
The member representing Maru state constituency, Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi moved the motion for the former speaker’s impeachment.
His removal, according to members, followed the resurgence of banditry on communities across the state.
The outgoing speaker was said to be out of the state for some days before his removal.
Hon. Shamsudeen Basko, representing Talata Mafara told the new speaker that security challenges should be given top priority in his leadership.
“I have two issues but an observation was made on one, which is that of insecurity which has been disturbing our people, some are being killed, and abducted.
“We need as an assembly to stand up and do something to defend our people because the armed bandits are invading local government headquarters unchallenged, Basko said.
