The Kano state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has extended the service period of Head of Civil Service of the state, some permanent secretaries and senior civil servants to the period of two years with effect from 31st December 2024.
This was contained in an executive order signed by the governor in accordance with the ‘doctrine of necessity’.
The decision of the governor is backed by the provision therein in section 5 (2) and 208 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).
In a statement issued by Director Public Enlightenment Head of Service Office, Aliyu Aliyu, those to enjoy the two years extension were Alhaji Abdullahi Musa the Head of Civil Service, four permanent secretaries Umar Muhammad Jalo, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, Mu’azatu Isa Dutse, Abdulmuminu Musa, and Tijjani Muhammad Sharif.
Also to enjoy the two years extension was the Clerk of the State House of Assembl, Bashir Idris Diso.
According to the order, however, the government personnel whose service years were extended have exhibited high level of competence, excellence and good sense of responsibility while executing their official functions in accordance with the civil service rules.
It further stated that exit of such personnel will no doubt create a great vacuum in the state service, hence the need for their retention to facilitate effective and efficient service delivery in the state.
The senior civil servants who benefited from the extension included Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir, Comrade Marwan Mustapha, Comrade Tajuddeen Bashir Baba, Comrade Hashim A. Sule and Comrade Kabiru inuwa.
Others were Amina Idris, Psychiatric Nurse, Ahmad Lawan, Peri-Operative Nurse, Hussaini Nuhu Pediatric Nurse, Salisu H. Nadosun Peri-Operative Nurse and Larai Ahmadu a Critical Nurse Care, all from the Critical Health Sector.
Those affected by the extension by virtue of the Civil Service rules and Kano state Pension Trustees Fund Law were due for retirement by 31st December 2024.
The order, therefore, directed that all the beneficiaries of the service extension should continue to exercise the function of the office to which they were assigned in accordance with the civil service rules.
