The Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu V and his Etubom Traditional Council, have organised a prayer retreat for peace and unity among various ethnic nationalities in the country and for a hitch-free yuletide.
The event, which took place yesterday at the sprawling Obong’s palace at Efanga Nsa Street in Calabar South, had the theme, “Bless the Lord, Oh My Soul, as they also prayed for passage of anti-grazing bill and reduction of violent crimes in the state and country.
Conducted by gospel ministers of Efik extraction under the aegis of Canaan Ministers Forum, led by Archbishop Archibong Archibong of Intercessors Bible Mission (IBM), the prayer event saw many Churches participating with their respective choristers who rendered melodious and soul-inspiring song ministrations.
Speaking, Archbishop Archibong described the event as glorious, saying the Obong invited Canaan Ministers Forum to join him in giving thanks to God for His mercies and other blessings throughout the year and advised other traditional rulers in the country to know that “no one sits upon the throne without the consent of the creator,” and as such should always remember to bring God Almighty into all their activities.
The Obong, in his remarks, described his entire life as a testimony of the favour of the Almighty God, and that a time was indeed coming that he would publicly tell the story of God’s intervention in his life and family.
The monarch called on his subjects to draw closer to God Almighty, saying “let us know that we brought nothing into this world and it is certain we will take nothing out. Whatever we find on earth will end here on earth. Some of us had gone astray but has come back home, I do not want you to go astray as we did.”
