Team Kano Saturday evening at Ahmadu Bello stadium Kaduna beat their Katsina rivals 3-2 on penalties to emerge the newly crowned champions of the YSFON north west zone U-17 boys football competition.
The Katsina lad took a first half lead, Team Kano staged a second half come back to force the game to a one all draw at the end of regulation time.
Team Katsina converted two from their five spot kicks, the newly crowned champions converted three out of their five spot kicks to cart home the coveted trophy.
In the fight for the third place prize, home boys Team Kaduna beat Team Sokoto 2-0 to poach the third place prize.
As part of the activities that marked the closure of the annual football ritual was the presentation of award plaque to individuals whose contribution to the development of youth sports has been outstanding in the last 12 months.
The managing director, FreIvan Support Services, Moses Ted Andishu bagged an award of honour.
YSFON said this is in appreciation of his contributions to the development of sports mental health through the convening of the first mental health national dialogue forum held in Nigeria, his support for Rugby in secondary schools for boys and girls, football scouting programmes and the financing of an annual grassroots football competition in Obudu, Cross River state.
The immediate past deputy governor of Kano state, Dr Nasiru Gawuna, was also on parade as one of the awardees.
Gawuna was decorated in recognition of his service to YSFON for several years.
YSFON, National Technical Director, Abdulgafar Agboola, who superintended over the award ceremony said the awardees deserved the honour bestowed on them by YSFON.
He urged individuals and corporate bodies to invest into youth development progranmes at all strata, stressing that this is the key to spur national development.
Katsina state commissioner for sports, Aliyu Lawal Zakari, received the award on behalf of the state governor.
Speaking, Gov Dikko through his representative applauded YSFON for its over four decades of sacrifices and investments in youths development in Nigeria through sports.
He reassured of his commitment to continue to invest in the development of sports in all areas that will boost national development.
