Youth minister hails NICCI on trade volume between Nigeria, Indonesia

The Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, has commended the Nigeria-Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) for the trade volume between the two countries.

The minister stated this when the delegation of the Board of Directors and Management of the NICCI paid her a courtesy visit in her office on Friday, in Abuja.

The minister said Nigeria was blessed with arable land and subterranean water that makes all-year-round agriculture possible.

“We applaud the Government of Indonesia as well as the business community in the country as they partner to take advantage of these numerous investment opportunities, improve business environment, and ample returns on investment (ROI) in Nigeria,” she said.

The minister thanked the team for their passionate presentation, and noted that the youth are the future of the country and would therefore be guided jealously.

Earlier, the President of NICCI and leader of the delegation, Mr. Ishmael Balogun, said NICCI was created in 2017 as the voice of Indonesian business in Nigeria while the relationship between Nigeria and Indonesia had been on since 1965, stressing further that, in recent times, Nigeria had done a lot of businesses with Indonesia, involving agricultural commodities, oil and gas.

According to him, “Indonesia buys our cocoa, ginger, hides and skins etc while Nigeria buys in return pharmaceutical products and consumer goods.”

Mr. Balogun added that, apart from the preparation to take about 150 business delegations to Indonesia, the Nigerian Ambassador, Usman Oga is in the country to meet with his counterpart, His Excellency, Ambassador (Dr) Usra Harahap of Indonesia to discuss modalities on creating a hitch free experience for the Nigeria visitors.

On his part, the new permanent secretary for the youth development ministry, Dr. Dunoma Umar Ahmed while briefing the minister on the NICCI visit, said the delegation were there to inform the ministry about their activities and to seek partnership.
