Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim has expressed sadness by the recent flood devastation that occurred in Maiduguri, Borno state, which has left a trail of destruction and displacement in its wake.
Jamila said, “Our hearts go out to the executive governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, and the resilient people of Borno state, who have been affected by this unprecedented natural disaster.
“We commiserate with those who have lost loved ones, properties, and livelihoods due to the flood. We pray for the quick recovery of the affected areas and the restoration of normalcy to the lives of the people,” she stated.
In a press statement by the director of information and public relations of the ministry, Omolara Esan said, the Minister applauded the efforts of the Borno state government, emergency responders, and humanitarian organisations who are working tirelessly to provide relief and support to the affected communities.
Due to the devastation and the grief that this has caused to the community, we regret to inform you that the proposed National Council on Youth Development scheduled to hold sometimes this year has been postponed indefinitely in solidarity with the people on this disaster.
Meanwhile, we affirm the ministry’s support to the development of youth in Nigeria and in particular Borno state youth.
