A senior lecturer with the Department of Economics, Bayero University Kano, Professor Murtala Sagagi, has described students as great human resources to the nation that could be adequately exploited for the purpose of nation building.
Speaking at the first matriculation ceremony of Baba Ahmed University Kano, Saturday, Sagagi stated that the newly established citadel of learning has the much needed potential to prove itself as a formidable bastion of knowledge and scholarship that could rub shoulders with any other university.
According to him, with the new private universities coming on board, the frantic search for knowledge in foreign universities could be drastically reduced, stressing that the country was abundantly blessed with high profile academic manpower.
He pointed out that the much pronounced gap in education could be easily filled by students seeking higher education at all levels, positing that even going by statistical data, Nigeria has more professors than many foreign nations of the world.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Adamu Idriss Tanko said with the calibre of academics working in the university, the quest for attaining greatness would never be a far cry.
He said the university has initiated a series of academic programmes that could stand the test of time and that the students were poised to have access to the programme of their choice.
