Your deposits in banks safe, CBN assures Nigerians

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has assured Nigerians that funds in financial institutions are safe.

In a statement signed by Ag Director, Corporate Communications Mrs. Sidi-Ali Hakama, Wednesday in Abuja, the Apex Bank insisted that Nigerian banks remain safe and sound.

The statement comes as reports allege the federal government plans to take over some banks whose takeover was supervised by the Godwin Emefiele led management of the CBN.

The former CBN Governor is being charged with procurement fraud. He however, pleaded not guilty.

“The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has noticed reports, in certain media outlets, about a recommendation for the federal government to take over some CBN-supervised financial institutions.

“The CBN encourages the public to continue their regular activities without being alarmed by reports that have not emanated from the CBN about the health status of Nigerian banks.

“The CBN is fully equipped to carry out its statutory duty of upholding a stable financial system in Nigeria,” the regulator assured.

The Bank assured the general public and depositors about the safety of their funds in the country’s financial institutions.

“Bank customers are therefore advised to proceed with their banking transactions as usual, as there is no cause for concern,” it said.
