Yobe, UNICEF begin 2024-2025 enrolment drive campaign in Damaturu 

The Yobe state government in collaboration with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund(UNICEF) Thursday flagged off the  2024-2025 education enrollment drive campaign in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.

Speaking at the occasion, the permanent secretary, Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Alhaji Aji Bukar said nowadays, people know the value of education. Therefore, the state is willingly checking children to nursery and primary school.

Aji Bukar stated that the occasion was brought to the door-step of Damaturu emir’s palace because it needs the emir’s blessings  and by giving his blessings, sky will be the limit.

He added that education is a right to every human being and so, it is their right to get educated.

“We are calling on sons and sundry to allow their children to be enrolled in to our primary schools and other basic education” he said.

The permanent secretary reiterated the successes which has been recorded by the government of Governor Mai Mala Buni for the past five years and added: “It is to your your knowledge that some secondary schools were established and some were promoted from junior secondary schools to senior secondary schools, especially the girl- child education. We did that to promote girl- child education among other.”

On his remarks, representative from UNICEF, Dr Salisu Dalhatu said the presence of the traditional leadership and the leadership of the state structure clearly underscores the importance the state has attached to education.

He thanked Yobe state government for giving them the enabling environment for the policy and the infrastructure provisions to operate.
