Yobe: Troops ambush, inflict heavy casualties on dozens of terrorist

Troops of 120 Task Force Battalion Sector 2 located at Goniri, Yobe state, killed dozens of Boko haram terrorists and inflicting gunshot injuring on many others during a gun duel that ensued when the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the troops camp.

Army spokesperson, Col. Sagir Musa, said in a statement that the incident happened on Wednesday 26 June 2019.

He said the troops awaited the terrorists whom he said came with seven trucks to “close into the killing range” before opening fire on the terrorists.

Musa said some equipment were also recovered from the terrorists after the attack, which include: five Gun Trucks, one Vehicule Blinde Leger (VBL), some quantity of ammunition, while some number of motorcycles were destroyed.

“The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai who has been in the Theatre of Operation has commended the efforts and successes of the troops in recent encounters with the terrorists and charged them to sustain and upscale the tempo of the operation,” he sajd.

“He enjoined troops to be more vigilant and assured them of continuous support to ensure the looming defeat of the dying Boko Haram terrorists and the eventual destruction of fledgling Islamic State West Africa Province battling to establish dominant presence in Nigeria.”
