Yobe procures dry season farming implements worth N78m

Yobe state Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) in collaboration with National Programme on Food Security, said it has spent N78million in procuring dry season farming implements to nine sites spread across the selected local governments in the state.

The programme manager of ADP Alhaji Ali Kolo disclosed this on Tuesday while answering questions from Blueprint correspondent in Damaturu.

He said: “10 irrigation machines, 8 meter horse, 2 Ox-Bull team, cultivator cart and 4 four female and 1 he goats mainly for women were procured to the nine irrigation sites in the state”.

“Others are one trashing machine per site and corn crusher procured for production of animal feeds” he said.

In order to ease transportation of products, 1.5km access feeder road from Katarko-Bulakulo was constructed apart from the three-cell culvert.

He also disclosed that the Bubaram/Gakoko Agric processing company located at Badejo had commenced production.

Kolo, called on the Governor-Elect, Mai Mala Buni to give priority to agriculture saying it would give a higher number of employment to youths in the state since 70 per cent of residents lives in rural areas.

Blueprint learnt that the fertilizer procured for the dry season farming by the state government had been distributed to the farmers.
