As the Boko Haram militants scramble for safety sequel to clamb down on their hideouts by security operatives, the Yobe state police command has embarked on enlightening residents to watch out for strange faces in their neighbourhood and to report any suspicious looks to security agents for prompt action.
Leading the campaign to the Damaturu emirate council, the state commissioner of Police Zannah Ibrahim, appealed to the royal fathers to educate their subjects on the need to partner security agents in fishing out the miscreants for a just society.
“The police is ready and prepare to work with the communities in this regards. Community leaders, religious leader, youth leaders as well as traditional institution have a role to play.
“Credible young men and women across ward, streets and household should be co-opted to form neighbourhood watch and the police will give necessary guidance from time to time,” Zanna said.
The CP also said the command has commences registration of town service cars operating within the state capital as well as registration of residences in some black spots areas within the metropolis as ways of identifying criminals.
He frowned at the disregards to curfew hours by residents and reminded them that the 10:00PM to 6:00 AM period of restricting movement in still in force and caution them to adhere to it.
“The police command is seriously dismayed at the disregard to the hours of the curfew and wishes to appeal to the good people of the state to adhere strictly to the stay at home orders between the hours of 10:00PM to 6:00AM daily.
The Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar El-Kanemi, commended the efforts of security agents and state government towards finding lasting peace and assures that his emirate will partner with security operatives to speed the restoration of peace in the state, the zone and the country as a whole.
The royal father further noted that the emirate had registered 400 youth volunteers, which would soon be introduced to help the security agents in the fight against insurgency.
