Yobe LG chair swears in new legislative council members, Vice-chairman

 

The Chairman of Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe State, Hon. Lawan Bukar, over the weekend, sworn in the newly elected Local Government Legislative Council Members and Vice Chairman.

Speaking at the event held at the local government council chamber in Dapchi, Bukar extended his congratulations to the newly elected officials, emphasizing the importance of their roles.

“This event marks a significant milestone in the journey of our Local Governance, reflecting on the sacrifices made during the Local Government election held on the 8th of June, 2024,” he stated.

He commended the community’s efforts which culminated in a landslide victory, highlighting the collective achievements of the council members.

Bukar also reminded the new officials of the gravity of their responsibilities, urging them to serve as good ambassadors for both the people and the government.

“The positions you hold are not just titles but a sacred trust bestowed upon you by the common men and women who have entrusted you with the mandate to serve their interests,” he said.

He called for fairness, justice, and prioritising the welfare of the community in all deliberations and decisions.

The chairman also stressed the importance of respecting the party platform under which they were elected, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He encouraged the council members to uphold the values and principles of the APC and to seek guidance from the elders of their respective wards.

Addressing current challenges, particularly the herders-farmers clashes exacerbated by the rainy season, Bukar reassured the community of the administration’s commitment to safety and development.

He announced plans for a stakeholders’ meeting to discuss ways to ensure peaceful coexistence and encouraged continuous prayers for peace and progress.

Bukar also called for unity and collaboration among the council members, stakeholders, and security agencies.
