Yobe East seat: Coalition drums support for Usman Alkali

A coalition of groups in Yobe state has appealed to the former Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to consider contesting the Yobe East Senatorial seat when it is declared vacant.

The leader of the movement, Muhammed Baba Ismail, made the call on Sunday while addressing journalist at the NUJ secretariat in Damaturu.

Ismail said Usman had a distinguished career in public service which was  characterised by an unrelenting commitment to upholding the law, fostering security and implementing crucial reforms within the Nigerian Police Force.

He stated that under his visionary leadership, the Nigerian Police witnessed transformational reforms that not only bolstered public confidence but also contributed significantly to the development and progress of Nigeria.

“Yobe East Progressive Movement firmly believes that the former Inspector General’s exceptional track record, impeccable integrity, and deep-rooted connection to the people of Yobe state make him the ideal candidate to represent the constituency in the National Assembly.

“After the appointment of the serving senator, Ibrahim Geidam as Minister of police affairs, the Yobe senatorial seat when declared vacant presents a unique opportunity for the former Inspector General to continue his outstanding service to the state and nation in a different capacity.

“His presence in the National Assembly would undoubtedly usher in a new era of positive change, development and a stronger voice for Yobe state at the national level,” he said.

The leader of the movement further revealed that the coalition includes students, youths, and people with disabilities.

“Our collective support and unwavering dedication to his potential campaign reflect our shared belief that with his leadership, Yobe East can achieve greater heights and continue on the path of progress.

“We implore the former Inspector General to give serious Consideration to this heartfelt appealed and seize the opportunity to serve his peopleonce again,” Ismail added.

He noted that,the decision would not only be a testament to Usman Alkali Baba’s unwavering

commitment to public service but also a significant step toward securing a bright future for Yobe east, the state and the nation as a whole.
