Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna state has commissioned two completed road projects as part of the ongoing roads contracts awarded by late Governor Patrick Yakowa in 2012.
Yero commissioned the 6.8 kilometre Likoro-Magada road linking Kudan and Soba local government areas and the 3.6km BUKS-Yankarfe road in Sabon Gari local government area. He also inspected the ongoing 28 kilometre Maraban Iyatawa-Yakawada road in Giwa local government area which is an ongoing road project.
Speaking during the commissioning, Yero said insinuations by some politicians and political jobbers that he has abandoned contract awarded by his predecessor were political gimmicks that are far from the truth.
The governor said the new road will not only ease transportation between the two councils of Kubau and Soba, but also enable farmers to move their products to market with less difficulty.
Yero said the BUKS-Yankarfe road would serve as bypass for travelers from Samaru to Kaduna, Kano or Zaria town, adding that “this new road will reduce travel time for travelers as they can now avoid the heavy traffic around the overhead bridge along Zaria-Kano road.”
He said: ‘We have not abandoned any project initiated by past administrations. This administration is committed to completing all ongoing projects because it is economically wise to complete ongoing projects, especially those initiated by successive PDP administrations in the state.
“The road was awarded by a PDP administration and today we have completed it. There is no way we can complete all the projects overnight but we have completed many of such projects and some are ongoing. We shall continue with the projects as we get funds.”
The governor inspected sections of the Maraban Iyatawa-Yakawada road that required review due to need for construction of bridges in place of culverts that were captured in the original plan.
The governor warned contractors to show commitment to projects, saying that his administration would only deal with serious contractors.
