Why Yari should step down as NGF chair – Dansadau

Persistent absence of Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has compounded the security situation in the state leading to mass killings of defenseless persons.
This was the position of the national chairman of the Nigeria Rescue Movement, (NRM) Senator Saidu Dansadau, who therefore called on the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) to drop their chairman to enable focus on his primary responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of Zamfara citizens that elected him to serve that purpose.
The former Senator, who recently presented data of about 3,000 persons killed by bandits and 682 villages sacked by the rampaging hoodlums, stated that since the governor has always asserted that his absence in the state was often occasioned by activities of the NGF it would be necessary for the Forum to free him so that he could concentrate on his primary function for the state.
The former lawmaker said though the fact that Governor Yari had since resigned as chief security officer of the state which “depicts his incapacity, unsuitability, and impropriety to continue to function as governor and expect people of Zamfara State to be safe from the criminalities of these terrorists”, he persistent absence clearly portrays insincerity in governance.
However, he said the situation has worsened because of Governor Yari’s persisted foreign trips and NGF’s assignment in Abuja noting his absence had ensured that necessary approval for logistics on security matters could be taken as at when due.
According to him, unlike the governors of Benue, Taraba, Adamawa and Plateau States respectively that are successfully grappling with similar threat of banditry and other acts of outlawry, Governor Yari’s decision to focus more of the meetings of the Forum has denied the state wellcoordinated approach to tackle the security challenges in Zamfara.
Subsequently, Senator Dansadau urged the Forum to kindly relieve Gov Yari of his burdensome responsibilities at the Forum to enable pay more attention to the fulfillment of his constitutional duties based on the mandate the Zamfara State electorate gave to him.
