The Minister of Youth and Sports development, Mr Sunday Dare, has charged the newly inaugurated boards of para-sports Federations to evolve creative models that would further lift sports development in Nigeria.
Dare who have the charge when he officially inaugurated the newly elected para-sports boards in Abuja congratulated the various excos for emerging victorious.
Represented by the permanent secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ismaila Abubakar, the Minister reminded the executive of the new boards that sports federations are the bedrock of national sports development.
He asked them to use the opportunity to write their names in gold by rendering selfless and purposeful service to facilitate effective growth and development of sports in Nigeria.
Dare described sports as an invincible endeavour employed as a veritable tool for national cohesion, peace, progress and international diplomacy, and that since inception of President Muhammadu Buhrai’s administration there has been paradigm shift in the management of sports sector.
He said, “It is germane to inform you that another parameter to measure the commitment of the federal government to the sector was the establishment of a new Department of National Sports Festival and Para Sports to oversee the affairs of the Para Sports in the Country.
“Further to the above, it is important to note that constituting the new boards of National Para Sports Federations is to re-invigorate them in line with the desire of the federal government to re-position sports for effective and efficient service delivery and progressive agenda for job and wealth creation for Nigerian teeming youth.”
The minister enjoined the federations that will be participating in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham to go for the gold and make Nigeria proud.
The six boards of National Para Sports Federations inaugurated are amputee football, para athletics, para powerlifting, para soccer, para swimming and sitting volleyball.
Dare assured that the remaining election of the Wheelchair Basketball will soon be conducted.
