Khadijat Idris secured Kano State’s first gold medal in the women’s 55kg freestyle event at the ongoing 3rd Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Umar Aliyu, the coach of the Kano State Wrestling Team, expressed immense pride in the athlete’s remarkable achievement.
“We are incredibly proud of Khadijat for bringing home Kano’s first gold medal at this prestigious competition. Her hard work, determination, and skill have paid off,” Aliyu said.
“This victory is a testament to the dedication of our athletes and the support of the coaching staff.”
The coach also acknowledged the vital role of the Kano State Governor,Abba Kabir Yusuf in making the achievement possible.
“We are grateful to the Kano State Government for their support, especially in sponsoring nine of our wrestlers to this competition. This is a significant investment in the future of our wrestling program, and we believe this success will inspire more young athletes in the state to pursue wrestling.”
Aliyu further emphasized the importance of continued development and exposure for Kano’s wrestlers.
