Works ministry celebrates retirement of 2 directors

The Ministry of Works, Wednesday, celebrated two directors, who retired in different capacities in the ministry.

While Engr. Kuti Adedamola Olarenwaju retired as Director, Highway Materials, Geotechnics and Quantity Control, Engr. Kehinde Olugbenga Koya retired as Director, Highways, South West.

Speaking during farewell ceremony organized by the ministry for the retirees, the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Yakubu Kofarmata, PhD, said the two directors should be emulated by all and sundry, especially those still in the civil service as “they served Nigeria for 35 years without blemish.”

He said: “It is not easy to spend 35 years to serve one’s fatherland unblemished. We are proud of the two directors. They did their best to add value to the nation in the course of their service years.

“I plead with those who have few years to spend in the civil service to be honest and upright. When we listen and sing the national anthem, it is an opportunity for us to reflect and pledge to do more for the country.

“We urge the senior citizens to pray for us that are still in the service, from level 8 to 17. It is not everyone that is corrupt. So many people have retired from here without any blemish.

“The current head of the Civil Service of the Federation has insisted on succession planning. So, we will not have any vacuum because once you are about to retire, you will start training others so that when you leave, they will take over seamlessly. So, I’ll encourage others still in the service to be incorruptible, honest and upright.”

In their appreciation, the retired directors promised to be available whenever their experiences are needed, assuring they will always contribute their quotas for the development of the country whenever called upon.
