Workers to get pay rise next year –FG

The federal government yesterday raised the hope of Nigerian workers, assuring that it would increase their salary next year.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige,  who gave the assurance at an interactive session with journalists in Awka, Anambra state,   said the various committees handling the minimum wage issue were working in that direction.
Ngige however said the pay rise of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration would not be like the previous ones, as it would be one enforceable in both the private and public sectors.
“Minimum wage is a constitutional issue and is in the exclusive list.  The Nigerian workers are entitled to a review of their pay under the constitution of the Federal  Republic of Nigeria.
“The various committees handling this matter are all working hard to realise the objective. Some are at the final stages of their work,” he explained.
The minister further assured that the new minimum wage would be designed  in such a way that any employer of Labour in the country  that runs foul of it stands to be liable.
