National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) yesterday said it had concluded plans to partner with International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) to embark on aggressive campaign against incessant rape cases and to prosecute rapists, Vice President of NAWOJ, Zone A, Zainab Shuaibu Rabo, said.
She said this when she visited the Kaduna state chapter of the association.
She lamented increased violence against women and children, adding that all means to stop the attitude of perpetrators should be thoroughly harnessed.
She said: “This issue of rape is alarming and I want people in governance to put themselves into the shoes of the parents and affected girls and see whether they would not formulate and implement stiffer penalty for perpetrators to face the music. At NAWOJ, we are going to work with FIDA to see what we can do in order to collectively fight this good course we belief to be just.”
Zainab frowned on the low awareness on girl-child education in the North, saying that though most of the governors in the region had good policy, including free education, but poor implementation had been the major challenge.
She added: “The problem we have in Northern Nigeria is that of girl-child education. Each part of the country has its own share of challenge when it comes to education. Most of the northern governors have made the education free. The only problem we are facing is that of the implementation and that is why NAWOJ is calling on concerned governors to implement the policy on free girl-child education.
