Woman jumps into Osun river

Residents of Osogbo, Osun state, Wednesday, rescued a woman who jumped into Osun river for suicide. 


The woman who identified herself as Kafayat Alake, jumped into the river around Gbodofon area, Gbongan-Ibadan road, Osogbo, as a result of hunger. 


Residents of the area who said that the strange movement of the woman on the bridge drew their attention before she eventually jumped into the river. 


According eyewitness, the woman, who dressed in blue gown, was trekking and got to the middle of the bridge, climbed the rear and jumped off the bridge.
“It happened so fast that we could not stop her.

However, when she jumped, people called for help, prompting me to dive in and rescued her,” David Johnson explained.


“We were somewhere around that place when we saw the woman jumped from the bridge. We thought she was either pushed or fell over by mistake. While others are calling for help, I  had to jump into the river and rescue her.”


When reporters got to the scene, the woman was sitting down, looking dejected by the river bank.
Speaking with newsmen, the woman said she hails from Alapaaro, Isale Osun, Osogbo, saying she couldn’t cater for the upkeep of her three children due to financial incapability, hence her action. 


“My husband lives in Lagos after about thirteen years of divorce. He abandoned the three children with me. 


She was rushed to the hospital by the Osun Ambulance.
