Wining the hearts and minds of the populace is critical in solving internal security challenges in the country, the Chief of Army Staff , Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said. He said this while inaugurating a water project in Galengu, Balinga local government area of Gombe state.
The project is part of the civilmilitary activities of the Nigerian Army. It consists of 70,000 litter water capacity overhead tank, 80,000-capacity surface tank with 5.5 horsepower pump, and 20kv soundproof generator.
The army chief said part of defending the territorial integrity of the country, the army also execute civil-military activities to endear people towards the “noble profession.” “The army is the only professional where you give your life whole heartedly both in time of peace and war, to the point of scarifying your life,” he said.
He urged residents of the community to continue to pray for and give all necessary supports to the army to enable it succeed in the ongoing fight against terrorism in the North east and other security challenges in the country. In his remarks, Governor of Gombe state, Ibrahim Dankwambo, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Charles Iliya, commanded the army for the gesture, which he said would go a long way in solving problem of potable water in the community. “This project is not only for the Galengu community, but the entire state, and we really appreciate it.”
Earlier, in his remarks, Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Maj.-Gen. Nuhu Angbazo, said the project was part of activities of Operation Last Hold aimed at totalling defeating remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in Northern Borno and part of Yobe state, to enable displaced people to return to their home and continue their farming activities. He said similar projects had been inaugurated in Enugu, Imo, Edo, Zamfara and Yobe states.
