Chairman of Jibia local government of Katsina state, Hon. Bishir Sabiu Maitan, says the council has been responsible for payments of electricity bills consumed by Jibia community in the last one year, as part of efforts to alleviate their suffering.
Hon Maitan disclosed this on Thursday to a team of journalists on inspection visit to Jibia local government area.
According to him, Jibia council pays N2 million to KEDCO on monthly basis as residential consumed energy inside Jibia town.
He said this became imperative in order to assist the people, since the area is bedeviled with security challenges for the past 10 years.
Hon Maitan however stated that, with the assistance of the Governor Dikko Radda-led administration, banditry has reducedto the barest minimum.
The LG boss disclosed further that the council has been giving 6 Army camps in the area; Gurbi, Natsinta, Jibia, Faru, Shimfida and Mazanya villages necessary assistance that includes fuel, water, food and other necessities.
Besides, two mobile police camps from Bauchi and Sokoto posted to improve security in the area are also receiving attention from the council on daily basis.
The Jibia council equally took responsibility of repairs of security personnel’s official vehicles , including the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), adding that just of recent, the council changed a new engine of the APC tank of the Nigeria Police Force at the cost of N3 million.
The chairman added that, the state government, in collaboration with the UNDP have engaged in the building 122 houses for IDPs in Jibia town just as Governor Radda released the sum of N60 million for the purchase of land to be used for the training of IDPs for self-reliance skills.
