Why we can’t employ every indigene in Jigawa varsity- VC

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Dutse, Professor Fatima Batul Muktar, has debunked rumours that citizens of Dutse Emirate are not being employed into the institution.

Addressing members of Dutse Concern Forum Thursday during a courtesy visit to her office at the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa state capital, the VC said the institution cannot employ every eligible indigene of Jigawa state because “there is no enough resources to do that otherwise, salaries cannot be paid as at when due.”

She appealled to the visiting group to canvass the support of philantropists that can assist the institution with some projects that are seriously needed in the institution.

She said the institute is making use of ‘Dinnya’ tree in manufacturing tea, revealing that trials have been successful, as the products are being used within the state.

“It is not true that we are not employing the citizens of Dutse, as being speculated in some quarters. I want you people to help educate the people to know that this is a federal Institution. As a federal university, other Nigerians also have the right to be employed. If we have not done that, we will be questioned why we have not followed the directives of the federal character commission,” she said.

Speaking earlier on, the Dutse Concern Forum, led by Professor Ya’u Haruna Shuaibu, said the group was there to show appreciation to the VC for her foresight, selfless service and giant strides that have led to the university wearing a new look.

“The community is overwhelmed with the construction and establishment of computer science, medical college, construction of medical student hostel at Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital (RSTH) and the intention to establish the faculty of education and many more,” they said.
