Ahead of Saturday’s elective national convention of the People Democratic Party (PDP), a lecturer in the department of Political Science, University of Abuja, Olagunju Olowu, has called on delegates and leaders of the main opposition party to elect Prof. Abubakar Olarenwaju Sulaiman, as their spokesperson.

According to Olowu, testimonies about the capacity and capability of Prof. Suleiman abound among eminent Nigerians like Taminu Turaki, Femi-Fani Kayode, Bala Muhammed, Late Chief Ojo Madueke among others wh have had opportunity to work with him closely.

In an open letter Olowu released Thursday in Abuja, he said Prof. Suleiman has constantly, consistently and constructively engaging the APC government on issues of policies, programmes and plan right from June 2015 when majority of the party members were still trying to recover from the shock of defeat experienced in at the general election.

“Even in spite of political persecution and intimidation, he refused to be silent. He is always speaking to the media with facts and figures to debunk the gross misconceptions about PDP administration. Men with this type of courage and confidence should be given privilege to pilot the affairs of the party in the forthcoming National (elective) convention.

“His stay in office as a Minister of National Planning was short but eventful with laudable achievements among which was the Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan, a blueprint designed to close the gap on infrastructure deficit in Nigeria.

“He won the heart of his boss, former President Goodluck Jonathan as a result of his technocratic acumen and his deep knowledge about Nigeria issues. Based on this capacity, he was incessantly planted in many committees and sub-committees under President Gookluck Jonathan’s administration where the need for thorough brainstorming, ideas and expertise are needed.

“Prof. Abubakar Olarenwaju Sulaiman is a repository of knowledge in the field of political science and International Relations. He has taught, mentored and impacted more than ten thousands graduates for two decades now.”
