Why I named my business Omoshola’s Place – Deborah Ajayi

At 23 years of age, Deborah Erioluwapo Ajayi also known as Omoshola is being touted as one of Nigeria’s richest and possibly youngest body and sex therapist. She sits atop an empire of different business concerns in two cities of Abuja, Nigeria and Dubai, United Arabs Emirate. She’s the big boss behind the Omoshola Empire, a group of concerns into sex and beauty therapy.

The Omoshola’s Place Chief Executive Officer sells aphrodisiacs. She also owns a farm in Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory where she rears livestock. She owns a body enhancement spa in Maitama area of Abuja as well as a salon and body spa in Dubai known as HBG Beauty Lounge at the Dubai Investment Park. And recently she launched the biggest African salon and spa in Dubai (Jumeirah).

Everyone who knows her call her Omoshola and this is at variance with her registered named of Deborah Erioluwapo Ajayi. She explains why she picked the name for her business.

“Yes, I didn't use Deborah because I get irritated by the way it's being pronounced by some people, especially, the Yorubas even though the name affects me positively as Deborah is a great woman in the Bible. I chose to use my other name “Omoshola” and named my business after it,” she said when asked why she didn't use her first name, “Deborah”.

On whether she's the youngest and richest sex therapist, she said, “I don't know if I am the youngest sex therapist neither do I know if I'm the richest but I know I am one of the youngest successful entrepreneurs in Africa. At age 23, I will say I have achieved a height even though I'm not where I ought to be yet. When people confirm my assets and what I control they go as far as saying I'm not 23, that, I'm only faking it. I've asked my mum severally if she's sure about my age as sometimes I wonder how I was able to achieve all of this at this age.”

On her products : “All of my products are made of local herbs. I do not import any material except bottles used for packaging. My mum is a traditionalist hence knows a lot about herbs, roots & stems. She's my guide, I told her my intentions and she supported me. We travel to farms at weekends where we meet older and more experienced herbalists. I learn everyday and I improve on my product formulas daily, the syrup you buy this week may be less effective that that of next week hence the reason I haven't applied for a NAFDAC approval.”
