A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Imo State Chapter, Chief Osita Okoroafor, has revealed that the former state chairman of the party, Barr. Charles Babatunde Ezekwem, took the bitter pill of resigning from the party in a bid to retain the plum Heartland job.
Ezekwem two days ago resigned as chairman of the party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that he took the decision based on counsels from both his family members and supporters.
But Okoroafor in a swift reaction, said instead, he did it in order to avoid sack from the new Governor, Chief Hope Uzodinma, who has not hidden his desire to work with his own political structure.
The PDP man added that Ezekwem has been working with the team since Supreme Court sacked his principal and former governor, Emeka Ihedioha, and once said that Uzodinma asked him to continue as chairman of the club despite the ouster of his principal.
“This means that a secret meeting has been going on between the governor and the former chairman,” he said.
Okoroafor further said the amount of money being voted into the team by the Imo state government in addition to proceeds from the sale of players was too tempting for the chairman to forget, which was why he took a decision which some people would find difficult to take and that after all, he asked for Heartland job when former governor, Ihedioha asked him to choose the agency or board he would like to head.
