Why EFCC must arrest former SSS, NIA bosses – Magu

The chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, said on Wednesday that the commission is not discouraged about Tuesday’s failed attempt to arrest the former Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), Mr. Ita Ekpeyong, and former head of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr. Ayo Oke.

Fielding questions from State House correspondents after the swearing-in of members of the Committee on the Recovery and Management f Stolen Assets by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, Magu said there is no going back on the arrest of the duo.
The EFCC chairman said the commission has concrete evidence against the former heads of the SSS and NIA, stressing that the law would take its course since the two former government officials have no immunity against prosecution.
There was a mild drama on Tuesday when armed guards of the former NIA and SSS bosses prevented officials of the EFCC from arresting them.
The two former heads of the security agencies reside at Mamman Nasir Street in Asokoro district of Abuja.
The resistance led to a stand-off between the armed NIA and SSS personnel on one hand and the EFCC officials on the other.
The former SSS boss is being investigated by the EFCC over offences bordering on alleged theft and diversion of public funds in the arms deal saga involving a former National Security Adviser (NSA), retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, and other service chiefs.
The former NIA boss, who was recently sacked by the President for allegedly stashing away N13 billion in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos state, is said to have refused to honour invitations by the EFCC for over three weeks.
